Market Rates: Fixed Rate Plans 8/31
August 31, 2010
Today’s entry into the Texas electricity shopping guide is for longer term fixed rate plans. While there are many different options, I typically highlight 6, 12, and 24 month plans in each transmission area of Texas. Hopefully these options help people save money whether they are looking for an intermediate or long term plan to lock in their rates.

Market Rates: Month to Month Plans 8/30
August 30, 2010
In the first Monday in the last two weeks, there were no technical hiccups on updating the Texas electricity prices this week, so today’s shopping guide for month to month electricity plans will be out a bit earlier today. As I have been mentioning a lot lately, month to month plans are a good idea for this time of the year in Texas. Temperatures will start cooling down in September, so customers can get a temporary plan at the lowest possible electric rate and then lock in a longer term plan during the winter that will last through the summer season. Here’s this weeks month to month rates:

Champion Energy Wins JD Power Award
August 27, 2010
Champion Energy has won the 2010 JD Power & Associates award for the best retail electricity provider in the in the state of Texas. JD Powers & Associates is an independent marketing firm that conducts unbiased surveys about things such as customer satisfaction, buyer behavior, and product quality. They have surveys and rankings for the auto industry, electronics, healthcare, insurance, and many more areas. In short, getting a JD Powers award is a big deal, and a great honor.
Champion Energy, this years recipient, had the highest overall ranking in the Texas electricity market. The ranking was awarded based on the surveys of over seven thousand Texas residents who took the time to give information about their electricity providers.
The rankings were based on a combination of the following: price, billing and payment, communications, and customer service. Champion Energy got the highest possible marks across the board, and were 20 points ahead of their nearest competitor. The study also showed overall that customers are, generally, more happy with their electricity providers this year than any other year in which JD Powers has performed their surveys.
The JD Powers press release can be found here and a full list of the surveyed electricity providers can be found here.
Market Rates: Green Energy Plans 8/27

Today’s entry into the Texas electricity shopping guide is for environmentally friendly green energy plans. As always, these plans are made from 100% environmentally friendly sources, such as solar or wind power. Typically the rates are slightly higher than normal natural gas based electricity, but the plans are ideal for shoppers who are looking to keep their personal pollution to a minimum and don’t mind paying a premium. That being said, there are still plenty of great deals on low electric rates for shoppers in the market for green energy plans.

Bounce Energy Beat the Heat Promotion: 8/26
August 26, 2010
Bounce Energy is offering a one day only promotion for today, Thursday August 26th, known as their Beat The Heat plan. Anyone who signs up today only for their Easy Fixed 3 plan will get 3 months of electricity at cheaper than usual fixed rates. For the past 6 weeks or so, I’ve been championing the possibility of month to month plans or small term fixed rate plans because they will get the customers through the last of the Texas summer heat and then shoppers can reevaluate longer term plans at winter prices, which are historically the lowest of the year. Bounce’s promotion, depending on which region of Texas you live, is approximately a half a cent reduction on the standard rates for their Easy Fixed 3 plan. That’s a good savings. Here’s the pricing breakdown below:

Tuesday is Fixed Rate Electricity day for the the shopping guide, so that’s what we will be presenting in a moment. For anyone who regularly reads this site, they’ve probably observed that I’ve switched up to suggesting people look into month to month electricity rates more than I have in the past, and that is a function of the summertime hitting it’s peak and probably starting to cool off in the next 6 weeks. However, that doesn’t mean there still aren’t some great values out there for longer term fixed rate plans in the Texas electricity market.

Market Rates: Month to Month Plans 8/23
August 23, 2010
Today’s update for the week comes a little late in the day, and for that I apologize. Had some technical issues this morning, which on top of the technical issues I had last week have been frustrating ways to start the week. However, everything has been updated and is place, and we can focus on today’s shopping guide entry for the cheapest month to month electricity rates. Record breaking heat in August is smothering much of Texas, so now is a good time to be aware of the opportunities to save money that are currently available in the Texas electricity market. Month to Month rates are a good place to start right now, because even though the promotional rates will expire after the first month, the heat might be laying off by that time and then customers can shop for another low rate. Here’s the cheapest month to month plans in the market this week:

Today’s shopping guide deals with the electricity rates for the different 100% green energy plans available this week. The plans listed will be the lowest priced month to month, 6 month, and 12 month plans available in each TDSP region of Texas, which will hopefully help shoppers save money on their electricity bill. Green energy plans typically cost a little bit more than regular carbon based electricity plans, however, they are better for the environment and thus a better fit for the environmentally conscious shopper.

Market Rates: Month to Month Plans 8/16
August 16, 2010
I’m going to be traveling on Monday, so I’m going to release this week’s electricity rates for Month to Month plans a day early. This week continued the trend of rock bottom prices for Texas electricity, with several big and medium sized electricity providers lowering their rates. If you’re looking for electricity providers this late in the summer, then month to month options are probably a good way to go, as it’s unlikely that rates are going to jump up any higher as the weather cools down. Shoppers can go month to month for a few months and then sign on for a long term plan in the winter when energy rates are historically at the rock bottom prices. Here are this week’s month to month plans, sorted by TDSP region.
